The Enid Saunders on May 11th

Katie Allison19 May - 14:22

Hockey fun in the sun!

Our annual Enid Saunders tournament was held on Sunday May 11th, at the Triangle in the glorious sunshine. Enid Saunders was the founder of Burgess Hill Hockey Club in 1948 and each year we run a junior tournament in her memory. We started with the boys and girls in the U8 age group, with Lewes Greens coming out on top. Next up were the U10 girls, with Burgess Hill entering 2 teams and competing against Lewes and Eastbourne. Bhill 1 were the eventual winners, with all the U10s displaying some excellent hockey skills, ball movement and structure. Finally, the U12 girls completed the line up and played extended matches in a triangular format against Eastbourne. Bhill yellows were the winners, although the toughest competitor for all the players was probably the sun! It was a hot day of hockey, for the players, the umpires and helpers and the spectators.
We award a trophy, called the Enid Saunders stick to the Burgess Hill player that stands out most during the days play, showing both individual skill and also excellent teamwork, a "one to watch!" This year, the winner was an U10 player Eleanor Poate. Well done Eleanor.
Finally, a big thank you to everyone that helped with the tournament, umpiring, running the table, coaching and organising!
See you next year!
