Hill were under pressure in 95% of this match against a team of mainly under 16 players
with good stick skills who had beaten their Legends team 8-1 the previous week.
But Hill demonstrated great resilience with Sarah Bailey and Megan Evatt standing out in
the back line and Perry Webber making some outstanding saves from several early
penalty corners. Hill had chances when Caitlin McCaffery released a ball up the left to
Rowen and Sally Nakajima found Alison Gillham in the centre - but it was mainly the
defence holding back attack after attack in the first half.
Early in the second half Hill added to the frustration of the Lewes coaches when Jane
Amerio passed the ball to Audrey Stiphout who broke away and drove up the pitch on the
right, pulled the keeper and gave the ball to Rowen to score on the left.
But Lewes responded immediately and equalised.
Hill then ran out of steam and Lewes pressed hard for the last 10 minutes putting three
more quick goals past the defence.
